Newly released surveillance video has revealed the chaotic aftermath of the fatal stabbing that claimed the life of Texas teenager Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco.
The incident, which drew widespread national attention, occurred on April 2, 2025, at Kuykendall Stadium. Metcalf, a student at Memorial High School, had entered a yellow team tent alongside several teammates, including his twin brother, while attending the sporting event.
According to investigators, Karmelo Anthony, a student from Centennial High School, was already sitting under the tent. Witnesses said a disagreement began after Anthony was asked to leave the area. The confrontation quickly escalated, and Anthony, who was 17 at the time, allegedly pulled a knife from his backpack and stabbed Metcalf in the chest. The injury proved fatal.
Video footage recently released by the Collin County District Court provides a glimpse into the moments surrounding the tragedy. The recording begins with several student athletes gathered beneath the yellow tent before the situation suddenly turns deadly.
Although the actual stabbing is only partially visible near the edge of the frame, the aftermath can clearly be seen. Moments later, one person appears to collapse onto nearby bleachers as panic spreads through the crowd. Students can be seen jumping from their seats and scrambling away as confusion takes hold of the area.
The footage also shows Anthony leaving from the back of the tent and running from the stadium. At one point, another student appears to chase after him, but the pursuit is short-lived and eventually abandoned.
Witness statements presented during the investigation indicated that Anthony had been sitting inside the Memorial High School team area before the confrontation began. When Metcalf and several teammates reportedly asked him to move, tensions escalated.
A 15-year-old witness later testified in court that Anthony seemed intent on provoking those around him. According to the testimony, Anthony responded aggressively when asked to leave, using insulting language and dismissing the students’ requests.
The case ultimately resulted in Anthony being found guilty of murder. Now 19 years old, he was sentenced on June 9 to 35 years in prison for the killing of Austin Metcalf, bringing a significant chapter of the highly publicized case to a close.
