A new wave of criticism has erupted around actress and wellness entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow after environmental activist Livia Giuggioli publicly condemned her involvement in a luxury housing campaign connected to Israel.
Giuggioli, who was married to Academy Award-winning actor Colin Firth from 1997 until their separation in 2019, voiced her concerns in a video shared online, accusing Paltrow of being out of touch with current global events.
Collaboration Plans Scrapped
According to Giuggioli, Paltrow had previously been expected to visit her regenerative farming project, Quintosapore, to explore a potential partnership. However, those plans reportedly changed after Giuggioli saw the actress featured in promotional material for 51 Park, a high-end residential development located in Herzliya, Israel.
The activist said she was shocked to see someone with Paltrow’s public influence and financial resources promoting luxury real estate while the conflict in Gaza remains an ongoing humanitarian concern.
In her video message, Giuggioli questioned what she viewed as a disconnect between celebrity endorsements and world events, arguing that public figures should be more mindful of the causes and projects they choose to support.
She went on to criticize Paltrow’s decision in blunt terms, suggesting that it reflected either a lack of awareness, poor judgment, or indifference to the broader situation.
Social Media Reactions
Although Giuggioli acknowledged that she generally opposes cancel culture, she said she felt compelled to speak out in this instance.
Her comments quickly gained attention online, where many supporters praised her willingness to address the issue publicly. Some social media users agreed with her concerns, arguing that celebrities can sometimes appear disconnected from realities affecting people around the world.
Others defended Paltrow, maintaining that appearing in a real estate advertisement does not necessarily indicate support for political positions or government policies.
As often happens with celebrity controversies, opinions quickly became divided.
Inside the Advertisement
The commercial at the center of the debate was filmed in New York City and follows Paltrow through a seemingly ordinary morning routine.
The advertisement opens with the actress preparing for a run in a luxury penthouse apartment. Throughout the video, she makes lighthearted remarks before heading out for a jog through Central Park.
After returning home, she reflects on the appeal of living near green spaces and parks. The campaign eventually reveals that the property being promoted is not located in New York but at the 51 Park development in Herzliya, Israel.
The ad concludes with Paltrow identifying the destination, while images of the upscale residential project appear on screen.
Although she did not share the campaign directly on her own social media accounts, critics soon began commenting on her other posts, expressing disappointment and accusing her of being insensitive to current events.
Not the First Controversy
The backlash adds to a long list of public debates involving both Paltrow and her wellness brand, Goop.
Over the years, the company has frequently attracted headlines for its unconventional products and health-related claims.
One of its most notable controversies occurred in 2018, when Goop reached a settlement with California authorities regarding claims connected to jade and rose quartz eggs marketed for women’s health. The agreement included financial penalties and restrictions on future medical claims that were not supported by scientific evidence.
The company again became a talking point in 2020 after releasing a candle with a provocative name that generated widespread media attention. The product later became the subject of legal disputes after reports surfaced that one candle had exploded during use. Goop disputed those allegations, while Paltrow later described the product’s name as intended to be humorous.
Workplace Culture Allegations
More recently, Paltrow responded to claims made in an unauthorized biography by journalist Amy Odell.
The book portrayed Goop as a workplace characterized by long hours, high employee turnover, and communication challenges. It also described Paltrow’s management style as difficult to predict at times.
Paltrow strongly rejected those allegations, dismissing the book’s portrayal of both herself and the company.
While she denied claims that Goop operated as a toxic workplace, she acknowledged that, like many organizations, it had occasionally dealt with difficult employees throughout its history.
Debate Continues
The latest criticism highlights the ongoing scrutiny that often follows high-profile celebrities and their business decisions.
For supporters of Giuggioli, the issue is about accountability and awareness. For Paltrow’s defenders, it is another example of a celebrity endorsement being interpreted through a political lens.
As discussion continues online, the controversy serves as a reminder that public figures today face intense examination not only for what they say, but also for the partnerships and projects they choose to support.
