Former President Joe Biden stepped back into the political spotlight over the weekend with sharp criticism aimed at President Donald Trump, delivering one of his strongest public remarks since leaving office earlier this year.
Speaking at a Democratic Party fundraising gala on Saturday, Biden ridiculed Trump’s handling of the renovation of the iconic Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., describing the president as a “loser” while accusing his administration of widespread corruption.
Biden Breaks Months of Public Silence
Since departing the White House in early 2025, Biden has largely avoided public political appearances, choosing a quieter post-presidency. That changed during Saturday night’s event, where he addressed party supporters and took direct aim at his longtime political rival.
During his speech, Biden criticized what he described as Trump’s approach to reshaping well-known landmarks in the nation’s capital. Referring to the multimillion-dollar restoration of the Reflecting Pool, he joked that Trump had even hired “his own pool guy” to oversee the work before adding, “Whoa, what a loser.”

The president also warned that anyone caught vandalizing national monuments or federal property could face prison sentences of up to ten years. In a post on Truth Social, he said such penalties would be enforced to protect public landmarks.
Longstanding Political Rivalry Continues
The latest exchange is another chapter in the years-long rivalry between Biden and Trump.
Throughout his political career, Trump has frequently referred to Biden with nicknames such as “Sleepy Joe” and “Crooked Joe Biden.” Since returning to office, Trump has continued criticizing his predecessor, including replacing Biden’s official White House portrait with an image referencing the controversial use of an autopen.
